How mysterious are the ways of the Lord<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>

How mysterious are the ways of the Lord!\u00a0Brothers and sisters in Christ.\u00a0From today’s readings,\u00a0we perceive the depth of the riches,\u00a0wisdom and knowledge of God.\u00a0We come to the realization that the judgments of God that were unsearchable and mysterious at the time of their occurrence were made known in time as they unravelled themselves.<\/span><\/p>

Not knowing the mind of the Lord,\u00a0no one can tell today how His progressive Divine Plan is unravelling itself.\u00a0But looking back in history,\u00a0at the unravelled prophetic words that are found in the Old and New Testaments,\u00a0we can now perceive the greatness and glory of the Lord God.<\/span><\/p>

When we review today’s Gospel,\u00a0once more,\u00a0we see the mysteries of God at work.\u00a0Many of the people did not know who Jesus was.\u00a0Some thought that He was John the Baptist,\u00a0Elijah,\u00a0Jeremiah or even a prophet.\u00a0To ensure the fulfillment of the prophecies that were found in the Scriptures,\u00a0the Heavenly Father hid the identity of Jesus as the Messiah from the eyes of many of the people until such time as Jesus had gloriously resurrected.<\/span><\/p>

Who would have believed in the days of Jesus that Peter,\u00a0a simple fisherman,\u00a0would become the leader of the greatest Church in the world,\u00a0the Holy Catholic Church?\u00a0Who would have believed that Jesus would pick Peter,\u00a0knowing in advance that Peter would deny knowing Him on three different occasions?<\/span><\/p>

In those days,\u00a0this all seemed very mysterious.\u00a0But looking back today,\u00a0we see that God can achieve anything that He wants.\u00a0We can see how He calls imperfect men as instruments of His Divine work.\u00a0We can see how He calls the uneducated to display the glorious power of His Spirit.\u00a0We can see the love and mercy of God at work.\u00a0Now,\u00a0we can testify that indeed,\u00a0the Spirit of God was at work.\u00a0Why?\u00a0Because the mysteries have unravelled themselves like a blooming flower.<\/span><\/p>

When Peter was given the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven,\u00a0what could possibly have gone through His mind?\u00a0Did he expect the Kingdom of Heaven to descend on earth as many still do today?\u00a0Did he see himself as ruling over the coming Kingdom?\u00a0What about Jesus,\u00a0where would He be?\u00a0If Jesus gave the keys to Peter,\u00a0surely,\u00a0that must have meant that Jesus would not be around.\u00a0At the time,\u00a0the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven must have been intriguing to Peter.<\/span><\/p>

It is only after the death and glorious Resurrection of Jesus that Peter understood his apostolic role in the Holy Catholic Church.\u00a0After the Resurrection,\u00a0Peter was able to perceive that he had been called to lead the Body of Christ alongside the other apostles.\u00a0The keys were his authority as the first of hundreds of Popes who would follow in his apostolic succession.<\/span><\/p>

My brothers and sisters,\u00a0there is something to learn from today’s message.\u00a0Sometimes in life,\u00a0we do not understand why things happen the way they do.\u00a0But surely,\u00a0God who is everywhere,\u00a0knows all,\u00a0sees all and is in control of all situations.\u00a0Every event,\u00a0although mysterious at the time of its occurrence,\u00a0serves a spiritual purpose for our individual spiritual growth and for the benefit of the Church as a whole.<\/span><\/p>

This week,\u00a0let us take the time to reflect on our past.\u00a0Let us take the time to reflect on the mysterious ways of the Lord that have led us to where we are today.\u00a0Let us take the time to perceive what our Heavenly Father has done for us so we may grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0And when our eyes are opened to the mysteries of the Lord,\u00a0let us take a moment to thank Him for all that He has done for us,\u00a0glorifying Him in His Most Holy Name.<\/span><\/p>
